Brand Backstory: A Real-Life Example

We wanted to share an example of a brand backstory. For a full explanation of the backstory as a tool and expression of brand, check out our episode on the matter. This backstory is laid out as we would present it- one paragraph per slide.

At the bottom, we share an example of one annotated slide. The brand backstory needs to include every element of the platform and be proof that it all hangs together, with meaning and emotion.

Protectwise was a cybersecurity company for which Applied Storytelling developed a brand platform, back story and messaging framework. From there, we activated the brand through an overview video, client testimonial videos and web copy. Protectwise was sold to Verizon in 2019.
